Garmin nuvi 765 is good July 28, 2010 R. Shelton (North West) Right out of the box the nuvi works well. The large screen is very nice. GO-TO functions are user friendly, more so than our Magellan, and "Points of Interest" are numerous to choose from. We like the ability to set way-points as well. The on-screen keys are a bit close together, but that could just be my fat fingers.
One out of 20 or 30 times that I have asked it to direct me to a destination it was very accurate. Once it wanted to take me down a dirt track.
All-in-all a very good GPS and should serve you well.
Excellent GPS! Easy to use and informative July 28, 2010 Pamela Surjadjaja I have been using this GPS for over 8 months. So far it has served me very well and is pretty accurate for where I live. I can't comment particularly for how accurate it is in cities, the two trips I brought it along gave me entirely different impressions. When I was in Chicago, the GPS often lost its signal and was slow to populate locations, however when I used it in ST. Louis, it gave me really good response time.
Other than that, I can't seem to get the Bluetooth on the GPS to work with my phone. The problem seems to be that the other party on the line can hear me but I am not able to hear them.
Excellent GPS device, superb service from GARMIN July 27, 2010 L. Roche (US) This is an excellent GPS, my 3rd Garmin GPS device. This unit had problems with the touchscreen, contacted Garmin and received a superb customer service. Received a new replacement unit in few days. The new unit works as expected. Thanks Garmin, will keep buying from you.
Good buy July 27, 2010 Sunny (Kansas) I haven't used any product before purchasing my Garmin last month. I have used it on two trips and been very happy with it. It's not perfect (didn't recognize my sister's address at all) but overall it was very helpful. We liked the feature showing how long the construction delays would be, kind of helped us chill. We are very glad to have had it's assistance while traveling and would recommend it to all.
The Garmin 765T is a great buy July 26, 2010 Wayne Johnson (Jackson, TN) I have used a 7220 Street Pilot for many (8) years and even though it was big and bulky it did a great job on basic travel help, it just would not find businesses such as Walmart that were close, only hundreds of miles away, "go figure". So I really like the Garmin line of GPS's, but that is the only gps I am familiar with. The street pilot seem to be not so accurate any more even though I had an up to date map so I decided to buy the Garmin 765T due to price, features and size. I bought from Amazon because they are good about refunds, but be forwarned that if a product is returned because you order the wrong item or are just not satisfied with it, you will have to pay the shipping both ways, which really does make sense just don't buy what you want be happy with unless you buy from Walmart of course which does refund all your money "selection limited". The 765T is a good gps but it does have some draw backs. I have found that the 765T will power cycle itself under some conditions, such as being on the traffic screen and touching the screen for a function, I have just upgraded the software from Garmin July 2010 so hopefully I want see the power cycle again. The lane assist has never worked, I live in Phoenix, Az and there are some junctions here that lane assist would have been nice. I have done as Garmin manual says and touch the lane assist when coming upon a junction but it is not there, however if one looks at the upper left corner of the screen the arrows do the same as the lane assist just not on the whole screen. I've found that you have to watch the screen for key things in following directions cause the voice prompts are not fast enough to give adequate time to make a lot of turns "this may have some more time "a couple of seconds" on it since the update I did July 2010, especially on city driving while driving the speed limit or a little faster. If you drive 5 miles under the speed limit then things seem to work better. I have also found that the mapping software for the Phoenix, AZ area has several bugs in directions such as being on the Interstate 17 here and it thinking I am on an access road telling me to take the next on ramp, and wanting to go north on the Interstate 17 toward Flagstaff and being put on the Interstate 10 toward California which is a real pisser, so you have to use your road sense and not follow the gps blindly. The features of this unit are really good so don't take my complaints as a non-purchase type of complaint, I would definitely recommend this unit as a buy unit even with the few bugs it has. The 765T will allow for updates to voices and you can cusomize voice prompts or use you own voice but without street names, and the point of interest files that can be built or downloaded are great, such as red light speed cameras, school zone alarms, state parks, updated store locations and many other. I've found the speed camera file from Garmin to be very helpful to remind me with an alarm when I am approching them. This is a very user friendly gps and if you don't want to spend more bucks on the latest greatest then this is the unit for you. The 765T will get you where you want to be and it beats asking for directions from unknowns on the street.
